Trained as an Architect, Dato’ Ar. Yew Tung Seang has a vision to transform Penang into an Intelligent, Liveable and Happy City and to incorporate Smart and Impactful Governance in the Management of the City. He began his career at Penang Island Municipal Council (then) as an Architect in 1991, and was promoted to Chief Architect in 2008. Committed to sustainability, Yew strives to make Penang cleaner, greener and safer, to provide more green public spaces, encourage low carbon city mobility, and make Penang a cyclist and pedestrian-friendly state. In his previous capacity as the Director of Building Department (2010-2017), he oversaw the establishment of Penang’s 180km bike network. Yew was commenced as the Mayor of City Council of Penang Island on 20 January 2018. Prior to this, he was the City Secretary (2017-2018). Yew is a Corporate Member of Malaysia Institute of Architects and the President of Malaysian Association of Local Authorities (MALA). He is also the Chairman of the 2nd Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Green Cities Mayor Council.
