Why housing matters? The value of safe, affordable housing goes beyond the provision of shelter. It boosts school performance, improves health of both children and adults, strengthens families and revitalizes communities. Housing plays a pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the blueprint for a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030. While governments of the world monitor their SDG progress, sector leaders and players are doing their part through collaborative platforms such as the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum.
For more than a decade since the inaugural conference in 2007, the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum has been bringing together experts and major stakeholders in wide-ranging discussions on low-cost housing issues in the region. The Housing Forum welcomes practitioners and stakeholders who come together to tackle issues, discuss solutions and promote housing as a driver of economic growth. At the seventh iteration of the conference in September 2019, almost 2,000 participants, gathered in eight events across the region, not only shared common ground but also presented diverse views through insightful plenaries and engaging tracks.
In the follow up of this important conference, Habitat for Humanity will present freshly-crafted outcomes of the region’s largest shelter collaboration and advocacy platform, and showcase existing opportunities for communities, cities and companies to make an impact towards the sustainable development goals through housing-centered initiatives and policies.
