This event brings together three feminist organisations whose work focuses on empowering grassroots women and their movements to create and sustain change, in recognition of their agency and expertise. APWLD is the leading feminist network in the Asia Pacific region, with over 240 members in 27 countries, and has dedicated several Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) projects on rural, indigenous, migrant and urban poor women; APWLD will be inviting its FPAR partners working on land and urban poor issues to share their research and examples of successful community-led initiatives; Huairou Commission is a global coalition empowering grassroots women leaders in development and policy-making around the world, inviting its member Jagori, an Indian feminist organisation that has initiated the The Safer Cities free from Violence against Women and Girls Initiative and the Gender Inclusive Cities Programme. These three organisations - global, regional and national - bring together a wealth of experience and activism that will shape a dynamic conversation on sustainable cities that are responsive to the needs of its inhabitants, examining emerging drivers of rural to urban migration such as the climate crisis and conflict in the region, and sharing innovative solutions going forward.
