Our proposed event for an Urban Innovation. "A Poop (FSM) in APUF (Urban Sanitation)” is a panel discussion event which will try to answer the following questions, on issues generally termed as “dirty, dangerous and demeaning” in most Asian societies:

  1. Why FSM matters in SDG 6.2? (Why urban sanitation in new urban agenda?)
  2. Institutional capacity to localize SDG 6.2 and New Urban Agenda?
  3. How to bring about political commitment on FSM?
  4. Fund management/financial strategy on FS management?

Though the session is primarily Panel Discussion but will maintain an inclusive and multi stakeholder approach spread across different countries of Asia as well as organizations comprising of leaders in their own fields. The session will start by linking fecal sludge in Urban Planning; bringing about Urban Resilience; Data and Technologies adopted for Smart Cities; as well as Urban Finance adopted. It will then dwell into some of the best practices available in some countries and dwell into role of municipalities associations and political commitment on local governance as a peer learning exercise. This session will strengthen the capacity of municipalities and municipalities associations in designing and implementing robust and effective policies and in developing sustainable financing strategies on sanitation, particularly on FSM and Non Sewered Sanitation (NSS). The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the achievements of SDGs target 6.2 and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls, those in vulnerable situations and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
